Residential & Commerical Roofing Applications

Roofing Shingles

Shingles are the best performing applications for standard steep-sloped roofs. Today they come in a wide variety of styles, sizes, colors, and warranties ranging from 10-20 years to a lifetime warranty.

Roofing shingles installed in overlapping one another. Shingles are built in a flat rectangular shape deigned in rows from the bottom of the roof and up.  Each shingle gets successive higher and overlaps the joints in the row below.

Shingles can be manufactured with several types of materials. Contact KOG Roofing to discuss the type of shingle that works best for your home or business.

Types of Flat Roofs

Flat roofs or low-slope roof systems are designed to meet a broad range of waterproofing needs. Below are some examples:

  • Built-Up Roofing -  This type of roof is one of the oldest & most reliable applications.
  • Modified Bitumen - Know for its superior waterproofing characteristics.  This application is superior is you live in a harsh wet climate.
  • EPDM Roof Systems - One of the most durable types of roofs on the market, but have a dark surface and can attract heat. EPDM is a better cost-effective solution versus TPO and PVC.
  • TPO-  Has one of the best longevity ratings and are built to last. TPO roofing is highly resistant to chemicals and UV rays.
  • PVC - Single-ply membranes designed for low slope roofing. PVC roofs are made to be chemical and UV ray resistant.

Single Ply Roofing

Single-ply roofing has become a more popular choice over the past few years for flat roof opinions. A single-ply membrane roof is made of flexible sheets of polymer, thermoplastics, and rubber. The most common type of application is to adhere to the membrane with glue seams and or flashings.  But can also be ballasted, mechanically attached, and retrofitted.

Roof Maintenance

Roof inspections should be performed regularly by trained roofing professionals. The best time to get your roof inspected is once in the spring and again in the fall.  Finding issues and problems early makes repairs manageable before they become bigger and serious concerns.

Inspections and maintenance should also be performed after extreme weather such as hailstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. When damage is detected you want it repaired as soon as possible.  This is to ensure and protect the structural integrity of your home or building.

How will I Know if My Roof Needs Replaced?

The average lifespan of the most common type of roof in America is asphalt. These roofs last around 20 years, but a roof can last much longer when maintained properly.

If your roofing was installed over old material, you may expect a shorter lifespan. Also, adequate ventilation is important. If your ventilation is not good, this may shorten your roof's lifecycle.  If you notice excessive granules in the gutters on your home indicate the roof may need to be replaced. This is a sign the lifecycle of the shingles is coming to its end. You may notice the presence of dark spots on the roof. This may be a sign of granules that are falling off.

Will a Repair Be Sufficient?

We often get asked by homeowners if they can get by with a roof repair versus a roof replacement. At KOG Roofing, we want you to make a decision based on what’s best for you. There are a few key things to consider when choosing, such as how significant the repair needed, materials originally used, and the geographical location of the home.

What Questions Should I ask My Roofing Contractor?

As a homeowner, there are several key questions you want to ask your roofing contractor. For example, many people ask about the warranty on the roof. What a lot of people don't know is there actually is two different types of warranties. One covers the materials used and the other covers the labor and workmanship. Please read over your terms and conditions of each warranty.
